Sure have. It's a really simple job, and much less expensive than the new
window gasket that is the more orthodox way to go. The part for this
is called the window gasket lock strip, and depending on the year of
your E30, is either about $75 or $35 to replace. To paint it though, all
you need is sandpaper, masking tape (LOTS of masking tape, unless you
don't care much about your car's paint), and a $2 can of Krylon or your
spray paint of choice. When I did this, I first masked the entire car.
Well, about a 5'radius from where I was painting. Then I sanded the
entire strip area. This is really easy to do, as it's plastic underneath
the metal. Then, I just sprayed on a few coats of black paint. If I were
old enough to drink, it'd be a 1 rolling rock job. =) While you're at it,
take the can of paint to the other faded black parts of your car. I've
only tried this on the door handles (also very easy, but take these off
the car first), but I'm certain it would work well on the mirrors.
Remember to sand very well. If you mess up tho, you can always try again.
Plus, if you get a little paint on your paint, it'll just scrape off with
your fingernail.

Mine has actually corroded a bit, so it's not a flat black texture, but
sparkly in some areas. If your's is in ok condition, there's a product
called Forever Black which can be used to bring back it's color. I've
never used it, but it was far and away the most recommended product when I
asked the same question not long ago. It runs maybe $14 from Bav Auto.
HTH!
