<e36> HVAC Blower Motor

First things first - thanks to all the contributors on the list for
sharing your collective wisdom. Between the current postings and
archives from Dale B's page, I learned enough to do the routine
maintenance on my '94 325i that the dealer would've charged an arm
and a leg for.
On to the problem. I recently replaced the microfilter, and just
the other day I noticed that my blower doesn't change speed as I
move the switch from position 2 to position 3. Speeds 1,2 and 4
work as they should.
I figured this was an easy problem, and I got a new blower
resistor, installed it, and ... I still had the same problem!! So
my question is, what else could it be?
Since the fan works on all other speeds, I figure it can't be the
motor (or could it?). The only other thing I can think of is the
switch. Does anyone know of the fan switch ever failing on these?
The last thing I'm thinking is that in the thrashing around trying
to remove / install the microfilter, I pulled a wire out somewhere.
Does this sound possible? If so, where is the blower motor and
the associated wiring?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're approaching another
cold Michigan winter, so I'd like to get this sorted out.
Thanks,
Mike Schaublin
