Hey,
This is for everyone that has every wondered if they screwed up
their BMW by over-reving it. Now, other than the obvious signs like it
won't run, start, or turn over, here is the more obscure thing to look
for.
More than likely, if any of the intake valves are bent then the car
will NOT idle very well. Get a simple compression check to confirm a
bent valve.--this is not the end of the world.
Likewise, after the DME senses an over-rev, it will occassionally
LEAN out the mixture and make the car run slower. This is a self-saving
mechanism to prevent too much damage. (fuel supply is lessenedf). Now,
this condition must be reset in the computer. Unplug your battery for 2
or more hours and this will reset the DME and erase this over-rev
memory. Be sure to have your radio codes handy otherwise you will have
a non-functioning radio
(PS. For all people who have no life and would flame me for making
these comments, here is a disclaimer: I am NOT a BMW technician nor do a
claim to be. This is just the information that I have gathered over the
last couple of days through various sources. I wish to share it because
it might help someone. That's all. Use this info at your own risk.
