If you are even thinking of rebuilding your front suspension while you
are doing the engine overhaul, pull it off BEFORE pulling the engine out
(the engine must be supported by the hoist when you loosen the motor
mounts). I have found that being able to drop the engine down a couple
of inches gives much needed clearance for removing the transmission and
allows a clean pull without bashing the cowl or radiator surround. Much
simpler than trying to do all this with the crossmember in place.
Note that the suspension will come off the car intact by removing the
brake lines, the upper shock mounts, the 4 bolts that connect the
steering shaft with the steering box, and six bolts that bolt the
subframe to the body (plus the motor mounts). Took me less than 1/2
hour. Installation was also much easier.
