Here's a thought on practicing off track excursions...
Spend a weekend afternoon searching for areas near you undergoing new
development. A dirt clearing for a plaza makes for one huge-ass skidpad.
Development of new neighborhood roads in suburbia makes for a great
rally course (first run 'em when they're dirt, then hop on when they lay
the gravel, and finally hit 'em after they've been paved - but no homes
yet - in either the sun or rain for the final test!). And by the way,
don't use your bimmer. Head on down to your local
Billy-Bob-And-Bubba's-Rent-A-Wreck and get you a loaner for the day.
Preferably the 8 cylinder, rear wheel drive Ford Thunderbird. Now
that'll teach you car control!
It's probably easier to find these types of "training grounds" in high
growth areas like the Southeast and Midwest, but I'm sure everyone can
find one if they look hard enough. Hey people - let's get creative here!
And bubba Duane, watch out for those deer!
