RE: Helmet
Peter-
Safety is always good, so I go with a full face SA95 helmet because I like
my teeth and my nogin. I personally am using a Bell M2 which retails for
just shy of $300. It has a nice large eye port and has decent ventilation.
The neck collar is also a very worthwhile investment; the neck tends to not
like the head flailing around with a couple of extra pounds on it in a
crash. Be sure that the foam in the collar is stiff so that it supports
the head/helmet in a crash and not just compresses; an instructor
recommended against the AutoPro for this reason. When you get your stuff,
put it on and sit around and watch TV or something in it for a while to get
used to the feeling of having it on your head. Believe it or not, I had
trouble finding a place in Charlotte to try on helmets (other than the
Simpson store by the track); HMS-Motorsport is a good place to try.
See you at the Tarheel school!
