Your avoidance tactics no longer work in California. The CHP will nail y=
ou
with radar before you can react after you have spotted them. Before they=

come into view on on-ramps. Just as they come into view, if you happen t=
o
be looking, when they are on the opposite side of the divided freeway goi=
ng
the other way. (We do not use center bariers on our freeways where
adequate space exists between opposite-direction lanes. Permits the
Chippies to turn around and stop you.)

I had been under the impression for a long time that the CHP did not use
radar except in some very limited circumstances. I know this has changed
recently, but has it changed that much? Here in Sacramento, they had a big
publicity campaign over radar being used on two stretches of I-5 north and
south of town. I therefore figured that they still weren't using it much
anywhere else. (Of course, they really don't need to, either). I'd be
interested in knowing if they are!

FWIW, I haven't had a ticket in over ten years of 18,000+ freeway miles per
year, with most of it done over the posted limit. (Cross fingers, knock on
wood, etc.) My "secret" is to make sure there's always someone going a
little bit faster than me within view. I also try not to drive like a total
jerk and save the really high-speed runs for areas with little traffic and a
known absence of speed traps.
