I got the Brookstone air vent cupholder for my E34 M5.
A few minor problems with it - it holds at the top only, I once accidentally
hit upwards on it while flailing around with my hands while talking to my
passenger (the car was stopped), and knocked Coke all over the car. Second
problem is that the only vent it will work in and let me steer the car is
the passenger middle air vent, and it covers up the display for the computer
(and clock), so I have to swing it up whenever I need anything there.
And one major problem, one of the plastic pieces holding it to the vent
broke, so it was swinging free on one point, so I took it out but haven't
made it back to Brookstone since.
I'd like something fixed, solid, preferably that somehow fits just to the
right of the console about where the front of the passenger seat is, I
figure that's about the safest place that doesn't get in the way of
anything. How solid is the dual cupholder on the BMW web site that looks
like it's friction fitted to the right hand side of the console? Does it
get in the way of the 5-speed? Looks like it's not optimal, but might
work...
