M3 Snow Tires in NJ

David,
Last year we had almost no snow in NJ; the winter before we had a record, =
something like 10 feet of snow. Who knows about this year.

BUT.... are you running Pilots? Do you want to be caught even once in the =
snow with them? $1,000 in damage is real easy!
Unless you have big brakes, I would do a minus one and get 16 inch wheels =
and snow tires. Smaller tires have less snow to push and supposedly get =
better traction, and of course cost less.

Even all seasons don't do it. My '94 325i non-sport had 15 inch Michelin =
XVs. Ok in light snow, but twice I got stuck on moderate hills (lots of =
them in my part of NJ). No damage but a bit hairy.
My '97 328i sport pkg has 225/50/16 Dunlop 2000s, so I got 15 inch =
Blizzaks last year.

I will leave it to others to debate Blizzaks (old or new) Pirellis, =
Hakepi-youknowwhats, etc.

Oh yes, I know the beater car issue always comes up with the snow tire =
thread. Sure some do it. But why spend all that $$$ for the Bimmer with =
ABS, traction control, rigid body, etc. etc. and then do "high risk" =
driving in a tin can??? Unless the beater is an old rusted out Bimmer or =
Volvo, I'd stick with the real thing.
