I, too, have had problems with my speedometer bouncing around and I believe
that Jeff
Graves and Tony W. are also suffering from the same problem. My problems
have yet to be
resolved but Jim Cash has offered some worthwhile advice as a first step in
trying to
identify the problem.
Jim reports that the speed sensor (located on the rear of the differential)
is
connected to the wiring harness via a connector mounted on a metal plate
above the
differential case. This connector seems to be prone to the effects of dirt
and
whatever else comes its way causing an intermittent loss of electrical
contact. I
think the first step in approaching Jeff and Tony's problem is to locate
that connector
and give it a good cleaning.
However, there may be a problem with the speed sensor itself. This is the
point at
which I find myself, having ruled out the connector as the offending part.
Does anyone
know how the speed sensor works? My speedo problem seems to happen only
when I am at
highway speeds or directly after I have returned to city driving. My daily
commute,
which never reaches >45 mph, seems unaffected by this problem. What's up
with this?
What do the speed sensors cost and is it a DYI procedure?
PLEASE HELP US!
