A friend of mine who is the lucky owner of a '98 M Roadster installed the ERT
Supercharger, and so far he loves it! He drove to the Z3 Gathering in
September(?) and everything went very well.  He is a qualified mechanic, so he
did the work himself(not an easy task I take it)...it certainly fills up the
engine compartment!...but looks awesome in there.  

I would think the installation in an M3 would be similar.

I can't answer your other questions, but after he lets me drive it, I'll
gladly offer more input!<g>
