Before you create any major electrical gremlins in your car (as if our BMW's
need any more!)  take a look into the little black box hanging off of the fuse
box towards the intake plenum.  It is a fused accessory gizmo(you'll need to
add the appropriate fuse) for just such retrofits, one "hot" all the time and
one "switched" through the ignition (at least that is how the theory goes)
Poke a wire through the firewall, terminate at this block and your V1 and you
should be set (assuming you can find a good ground under the dash)

This is an often overlooked feature of BMW's, and would sure be nice if
aftermarket stereo/alarm guys new this too.
