re: cup holders

I was forwarded an inexpensive option for a cup holder. Brookstone sells a
cup holder that plugs into the cigarette lighter, as an anchor, and holds
the cup. This retails for about $5. Brookstone also had another cup holder
that fastens to the air vent. 

Has anyone tried this on an E30??
Is it secure??

It looks much stronger than the cup holder that plugs into the cigarette
lighter, and only retails for $18, which is still substantially less than
the $45 or so that Bavarian Autosport is asking. 

Any first hand knowledge, or comments and other ideas are welcome.
