E30 Speed Sensor/Diff Refill

Hey folks,

Does anyone know off hand whether I can remove the differential's
speed sensor in order to use the access hole  as a means of refilling
my differential with gear oil?  I'd like to replace the diff gear oil, and
I can get the drain plug out, but I simply cannot get the filler plug out
(it seems to be stuck, and beating on it might cause cracking of the
housing).
