Brakes

Here are the specific points of my mental gear-turnings:

1) So I know that E32 calipers and rotors fit an E28.
			Yes...these 300x28mm are slightly larger diameter/thickness

2) I know that standard E34 calipers and rotors (smaller than E32) fit an
E28.
No...calipers use the same rebuild kit and have the same diameter
piston. The E32 caliper has additional spacing to fit over the thicker rotor.

3) I came across a part cross-reference in the BavAuto catalog that shows
E32 and "540i thru 96" rotors are exactly the same part.
Yes...these are the brakes I put on my 89 535i, both front and rear.

4) My friend told me that his E36 M3 and E34 M5 use the same brakes.
Same pads...yes. Rotor hats are much flatter on the E36 than the E34
and therefore the calipers are very different.

5) The E34 M5 brakes also make a nice upgrade for an E28/E32/E34.
Sure, if you want to go to larger diameter wheels. M5 front brakes will
not fit inside a 15" wheel and would be very tight on a 16" rim.

I think to myself, "Does this mean that if the E36 and E34 can swap
brakes, can the nifty E36 M3 Euro Floating Rotor brakes bolt directly onto
an E28?"
Ask Tino....he's got ONE set left. (Answer is no.)
