Hey Bimmerphiles,
We need to all discuss this as a group because I'm sure it affects
most of us. Given we drive some of the fastest, best looking, and best
driving machines in the world, we are all bound to occassionally exploit
this potential. Maybe some serious braking, red-lined accelerations at
a stop light (or maybe only 5500rpm shifts!ha ha), major turning in,
trail-braking, serious downshifts, etc, etc. Now, these precious
automobiles are merely built of metals and plastics and are constructed
by man. Any such machine is BOUND and almost guaranteed to expire
prematurely if driven to such limits. My question is the following:
My 95 325is has got to last me another 5 years or so with about 10K
miles annually. I only have 27K miles on it now. Am I enjoying this
car TOO much with my JC chip and other such mods in this quest to have a
faster car. Is taking it to such high RPMs before shifting going to
cause an premature engine overhaul at some early mileage (before 100K).
Should I back off and drive more conservatively and maybe shift at 3K
RPMs, in which case, I would get smoked by vans and 76 Novas? What do
you all think? And if I do need some SERIOUS engine work because of the
way this car is driven, what do things like overhauls, clutches,
transmissions, etc. cost???? As of now, the car is under warranty and I
haven't has to pay for anything other than oil and the 15K service.
Thanks, any comments are welcome. Mike. (loving every second of my
car)--maybe too much!
