Greg,
I gotta take some issue here. That is not BS. Not a figment of someone's
imagination. Bottom line is if the car rolls hard enough, the roof comes
down. If you have big time comp belts on AND the roof comes down, then the
top of your helmet is now the swivel point for the car. Necks don't do that
real well. Dave Hogg rolled his '98 M3/4 Sedan at Summit Point recently as
you know and here's his description:
"FYI, I rotated 100 degrees (tail to left), then went both feet in. Hit
tire wall (hard on driver's side -- metal wrapped around the intrusion
beam) off right side of track, rolled up the wall, got airborne above
the tires, came down on hood/passenger side A/B pillar, then proceeded
to rest on driver's door. Had to climb out the back window -- it was
the only way out."
When you really do the big endo, and you're in street belts, you can
involuntatily slide out the side - sometimes winding up with your head
upside down in the passenger compartment. That won't happen with
harnesses - they lock you in and unless the seat track breaks and shifts
rearward, you ain't goin' nowhere.
Sooooooooo.....its everyone's call WHAT to run in the way of safety
equipment - they just need all the facts first. The time to wish you had
safety gear is not when you're going airborne at trackside. Now when you get
into real racing - they won't let you be stupik and choose what to run.
When you're only street driving then no one can stop you from your poor
choices!
