The military did a study on ptfe(silicone oil additives by dupont) in the '70's and
concluded that they actually accelerate engine wear.  The ptfe doesn't remain
suspended in the oil and instead clumps up in the nooks and crannies in your
lubrication system as well as in the filter.  Use a good synthetic unless you have a
rotary engine and leave well enough alone.  In the October Sport Compact Car there is
a pretty decent explanation of motor oil and additives and they build a strong case
to avoid the additives.
