Is it worth purchasing Extended warranty?

I'll give you my 2 cents. :-)

I had a '96 328is, and I bought the extended warranty for it. I was putting
about 25,000 miles/year on the car, so my factory warranty lasted only two
years. I had had some warranty issues early on with the car (mostly
DME/OBDII related), so I felt the warranty was justified. Plus, a Digest
member said something a while back about this: If you have it and need it,
you're glad you had it. If you don't need it, that means your car is
running perfectly. Either way you're happy. Made sense to me :-)

And it turned out to be a good selling point (I think) when it came time to
sell the car (it had 68,000 miles on it when I sold it last week). I think
it gave the buyer a bit more confidence buying a "high mileage" car.

(BTW, my warranty was through my dealer and was about $1500.)

Hope that helps,
