Re:Strap-on Dorsal Fins

I have a '87 325is that has had a Sebring exhaust and a Dinan chip for 6
years and 105k miles.

My experience has been that a chip alone or an exhaust alone will result
in a very modest performance boost. The chip and exhaust work well
together and will give a worthwhile gain.

The Sebring exhaust has a rather penetrating drone that can be tiring on
long trips.

After I do some engine mods I will replace the Dinan with a Conforti
chip, chiefly because the Dinan comes on so hard at about 4000 rpm. The
reports in the digest indicate that the Conforti chip makes the same
power, but more smoothly.

I recommend against the AutoThority chip for this car. I found in 2
different 325's that the engine stumbles (seems as though it was
detonating) badly at 5500 rpm in fifth gear at WOT. In forth gear both
cars would pull smoothly at WOT to 6800, so go figure. I do not know if
AutoThority fixed the problem after I told them about it.
