Strap-on Dorsal Fins

Hi!
     As a newbie, I've seen a lot of references to the Jim C. chip. I've 
been debating for a while now whether or not to add some teeth to my 
3'er. Now I've been thinking Dinan for this, but I'd like to hear what 
makes Jim's chip different. Also, should I get the chip or look at other 
components first, like exhuast? I'm not looking at racing, but I like a 
little edge.
