Re: [e36] right rear suspension rattle



Dear all,

thanks to those of you who responded with ideas on the above symptom. For
those of you who are interested, it was the rear shock mounts - both were
split and letting the shock move around in places where, presumably, it
shouldn't (it's a metal sleeve mounted in rubber that provides lateral
support for the shock piston, more or less, and they tend to split between
25,000 - 50,000 miles).

The garage told me it was BMW's way of saying 'slow down over bumps'. I
told him that selling the car and buying a Merc was my way of saying 'get a
grip' to BMW, but that's another story.
