<2002> re: crappy idle..

thanks to the replies..

question was: I just got a '74 2002 and the idle recently went to hell
after driving a few hundred miles..

has the original solex carb, and the vacuum lines to distributor missing..

suggestions included:
 fuel, fuel lines, filter, timing, missing vacuum line, as well as
  trash the carb because they suck!

I fiddled with the timing.. (could make things *worse* but not better)
dumped carb cleaner through, the filter (clear see through) looked clean..
no problem running high RPM.. (ie not being starved for fuel)


today I dropped by my bmw garage and the guys promptly said 'oh ya, that's
the idle jet' .. (some kind of solenoid operated jet) removed it in 2
seconds, blew the crap off it with some air.. popped it back in and
WOW! back to normal idle.

so now I know.

also, when I asked about the vacuum line to the distributor, he said they
had put in a mechanical distributor (from tii) and the vacuum was not
used. Oh.

He also asked where I filled up with gas, I mentioned Sunoco, he made a face
and said 'that ethanol gas is crap for these cars'.

oh.
