Gee, Lee.. then don't rev it all the way to 6800..
In all reality, the only way you would "blow the thing up" is with a missed
shift or a mechanical weakness in the engine.. neither of which have anything
to do with the chip.
The same motor in the 5 series has a stock rev limit of 6450, and we have
countless motors running 6800 with no problems
Of course, with what I see as a predisposition towards thinking the chip is
"abuse" I would have advised you to leave the car stock, rather than think
it's responsible for "oil leaks" on a vehicle with 153+k miles!
