The winner (at least in German) is:
A-`voos (short A, second syllable stressed)
When we were in M=FCnchen (Munich) and pronounced it A-vis (long A, first
syllable stressed, sounds like Avis the rental car company), we got first a
look of incomprehension, then a very long laugh.
