Michael,

I have the same problem with my '97 M3. On OBD-II cars the faults do not
reset themselves even after the problem is corrected. You have to go to the
dealer, or your favorite BMW mechanic, to reset it. Be warned that the
dealer charges around $75 for 1 minute actual work.

Next time I'll determine what the car computer sees from the socket under
the seat when the seat belt is plugged/unplugged. I'll use resistors to
connect the appropriate socket pins together and make it think that the
seat belt is alive and well.

I'm left with a permanently lit air bag fault light as a result of
installing a Schroth harness in my 97 m3 this morning.  I've checked all
the electrical connections under the seats etc to no avail.  Any ideas
where to look?
