Passing the Smog Test in CA sans Cat. NOT POSSIBLE.

I think it's time for me to clarify.

When I mentioned that a 944 passed the CA smog test without the catalytic
converter I should have said GOT PAST the test and not PASSED.  Obviously,
the examiner MISSED the modifications that were made to the car.  Any
emissions related mods will fail the car. 

I think case, the owner probably relied on the examiner being sloppy. 

It is also possible that the Split Second unit could be passed off as
something else.  I'm not sure the 'average' examiner would recognise one
as being an emissions mod. 

IN ANY CASE, ALL THESE ARE ILLEGAL.  THE MODIFIED CAR PASSED BECAUSE THE
TEST WAS SLOPPILY ADMINISTERED. 

Acutally, I think that was clear to begin with, but, as Scott pointed out,
better safe than sorry.
