Header? Exhaust?

I was thinking about adding headers and a new exhaust to my 95 525i. What
is ther general opinion of doing this. Will it remain smog legal? If I
couple this with a Jim C chip will I have a pretty good combo? Anything
else I can doto give this car more "umph"?
