Chip for M60

My father just got a steal on a '94 540ia this weekend.  So of course,
 Monday morning I called TMS to order a chip for it, only to find out 
that a Jim C. chip is not made for 8 & 12 cylinder cars..  Anybody 
know why?  I called around and found that Korman and Bav. Auto both 
make chips for it...
