A Mass Flow Meter Implementation.

Russ/Other Listers:

Came across this mail on the Porsche List that tells of a 944 Turbo (951)
owner who performed the Split Second meter swap that was discussed on the
BMW list not too long ago AND PASSED THE SMOG TEST. Tim, the owner,
actually leaned out the mixture and passed without a catalytic converter
in CA!

I believe Jim C(onforti) had suggested that such a modification would be
illegal and Russ Poffenberger had suggested swapping out the meter during
the test. Perhaps the swap is not necessary. The meter is probably
illegal though since I can't see why Jim C would be wrong about this.

AutoAtlanta and Performance Products (Porsche parts places) both offer the
conversion kit for $2000, but the Split Second arrangement is available
for about $900 or so and allows for adjustment. For those (Russ?) who
have not looked at the site for some time, SS have added some cheaper
(than Bosch) meters to it.

If you don't mind my asking, Russ, how far did you get after the K&N that
you said you had ordered. I'd be interested in knowing. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Neil Deshpande

neil,

if you didnt know already, you can get the whole kit for around
$800-$900 from split second[k&n,mass-flow meter,acr2].you basically hook
it up in place of your airflow meter.it comes with the ACR2 fuel
controller that Huntley Racing is selling.huntley has a mass-flow kit
for that has an intake pipe that lets the air come in from behind the
left headlamp.he knows how to hook them up to porsches too.split second
cant really give you detailed instructions on how to hook it up to the
dme.derrek can give you the appropriate wire colors and so forth to make
the installation a snap.i installed mine[acr2 only].im
going to get the mass-flow sensor next.the acr2 takes control of your of
your airflow meter.you can evectively change the meter settings without
the mass-flow.i did recently to pass smog.i leaned out the mixture
inside the car with the acr2.the car had no cat and chips and passed.it
didnt before i got the acr2.get the air\fuel gauge too.
