Regarding lack of a front tag, I babbled:

footnote- I keep mine under my floormat.  DC parking meter maids have
ticketed me before for having no front tag displayed, and Im not even
registered in DC.  Not sure if other jurisdictions have these same laws...

To clarify, when I park at a street meter, I remove the tag from under the
mat, and place it in the window.  This qualifies as "displaying a front
tag".
