<E30> bike carrier question

Hi all,

i've been seeing from the digest threads on bike racks on their bimmers.  
this may sound silly but bear with me,  what about bike carriers?  i 
have an '84 325e and i'm thinking of taking the bike for my forthcoming 
trip down to PA, i'm from NJ.

this a carrier that everyone might have seen from sport stores, and it 
attaches to the trunk.

any advice?  thanks.
