Duralube and Slick 50 have properties that are indeed harmful to BMW engines.
Duralube and other chlorinated additives are highly corrosive and destructive
to engine bearings. Slick 50's teflon particles can fill oil filters and
foul
the crosshatching in the cylinder walls which will cause less oil retention,
and therefore more engine wear than with motor oil only in the engine. One
laboratory report showed that 70% of a dose of Slick 50 ended up in the oil
filter within twenty minutes of running. Because of this and other factors,
the Federal Trade Commission stepped in and penalized Slick 50 for its false
claims.
