going price for new 98 328i?

Hello,

Was looking at a new 98 328i sedan last week. Salesperson quoted $33.9.
Said retail was $36.3. Car includes 5 speed manual, obc, and premium
package. Questions: (1) do most dealerships sell at retail; if not what is
typical discount off list? (2) is 33.9 reasonable for a car; although new,
is now one model year old? Your opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.
