M50 water pumps and failure.

Getting ready to take my freshly tuned (thanks Josh/Eurosport!)94 325is on
a 4000 mile trip to the scorching climate of New Mexico, the car has low
miles 30K and the original water pump which seems to be performing fine,
but I would hate to see it fail in the middle of the desert. anyone know
when BMW went to the metal impeller pumps on the M50, and am I safe with a
production date of 5/94? Thanks alot. FSC
