rebuilding engines for bmws?

I have an 85 325e 4dr with 185,000mi. I'm thinking of buying
an engine that came out the same year/model car, so that
I can rebuilt it over a period of several months.
What are some of the problems/obstacles/considerations that
should be taken into account?
