administrivia: server downtime

i have in my hands a new 8.4G western digital disk drive to replace the 7G
maxtor that is in the process of croaking only 9 months after i bought it.
i anticipate installing this drive, formatting & partitioning it, and
moving the files sometime during the day tomorrow -- i want this move done
before the maxtor toasts, not afterwards.

after that, i have to decide if i want to do a warranty thing on the Maxtor
(may not be a good idea) or just send the bad drive to western digital and
take the $50 trade in rebate.
