?Installing replacement tranny

I've good several leads on a replacement transmission for my 1985 528e.  I
hope to make a decision soon.  In the meantime though I would like opinions
and advice on doing the swap myself vs. someone else doing it.  Some of the
outstanding questions I have are:

1). What all is involved in dropping the old one and putting up the new one?
i.e. exhaust removal, cables, sensors, etc.?

2). Special tools needed?

3). Level of difficulty without a tranny jack or lift?

4). Special concerns?

5). Other?
