I just put a nice stereo system in my 84 318i. I have the MB Quart
215.02 set up front and they sound incredible. The nice thing about the
tweeter in this set is the incredible off axis performance. I have it
placed toward the bottom of the front kick panel speaker in a surface
mount. i highly recommend these speakers.

Agreed. I have the 215.03CX, which consists of a 5.25 mid/woof, and the
small dome titanium tweeter. Justin Chan over in Singapore spent a
considerable amount of time answering lots of my car audio questions. The
215.03's are the same speakers that come in the 325.xx (cant recall the
specific number) which is the drop in set for E36's. Early E36 318's did
not come with a seperate tweeter, only the mid-range in the door panel. I
also elected to mount my MB tweeters down near the kick panels. I have
them aimed up towards the area between the driver/passenger seats, and get
great imaging/good soundstage. Disconnected the factory midranges, but left
them in place. The front MB's are hooked up to the front channel of a 100X4
amplifier, with the rear 2 channels bridged to a subwoofer. Rear stock
speakers still in place, but only run off of the power from my Blaupunkt
Sydney head unit. Still experimenting with sub-woofers. Believe it or not,
have had good results from a Bazooka tube laid crossways against the back of
the fold down seats, but may experiment with other options for the heck of
it.
For those who are hesitant about getting subwoofer. Just do it. Makes a
world of difference at all listening levels, on all types of music. If you
have it installed, positioned, and "tuned" properly, you do not get bass
sound from the rear...your front stage pulls the bass towards the front of
the car, and blends it in perfectly with the rest of your music.
