Exhaust advice requested

Looking to open up the exhaust a bit more on my little monster.
Problem is I can't decide whether to retain the 2 separate pipes or
go to a 2 into 1 design after the cats (2.5 inch or larger past cats).

I don't want to create a bottle neck problem.  Anyone out there
figured out which seems to work out better?
Since I have E36 twin cats/down pipes mated to a E30 cat-back system,
I am going to have a custom exhaust fabricated after the E36 cats with
flanges
so I don't have to remove the complete exhaust as I do right now when
its time to work on various things.
