E28 whining

I am a new subscriber to the digest and new member to the BMWCCA.  I've been
reading the digests for about a week and have found that by and large, there
is some very good info.
Well, here's my problem.  I recently purchased a '83 533 which runs and looks
great.  The only problem is that there is a distinct whine when I depress the
gas pedal and shift up through the gears.  The tone increases as the speed
increases.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also is there a SIG for 533's
