I've got an '84 733i that had some vacuum leaks, which were causing havoc
with the climate control system. One of the leaks was in the vacuum
cannister that attaches to the heater hose, just as it enters the firewall.
Well, since it was summer, and I didn't need the heater anyway, I just
plugged off that vacuum hose, assuming that I would buy a new cannister
before the cold weather set in. Yeah, right! ;)
Well, it's now getting chilly in the mornings, and I still haven't changed
the cannister. However, when I turned up the thermostat dial, to my
amazement I got heat! I figured that this cannister controlled the flow of
hot water into the heater core, but obviously I was wrong. So, my question
is, just what is the function of this cannister?
Thanks - Gary
