Philadelphia-area mech

I'm writing for a digest-impaired friend of mine in the 'burbs west of
Philadelphia.  Seems his '85 528e sprung a head gasket.  Luckily, he didn't
overheat the engine.
He's contacted a couple of places concerning a repair job but the cheaper
place wouldn't even open the hood for less than $1000.  
Question for my fellow digesters - where in the suburbs of  Philadelphia is a
good place (reliable work & reasonable prices) for my friend to get these
repairs done?  The car is located in the King of Prussia/Wayne area.
