Diagnostic Socket & SI Reset

I was browsing the General FAQ and came across that entry that outlines the
simple procedure to reset the service & inspection lights...Has enyone ever
done this: jumping pin 19 to pin 7 (in that order) for three seconds in
late model 3-series.

Where is that diagnostic socket anyway.  On my M50 engine there's one of
those near the edge of the fusebox and another over by the positve battery
terminal...WHICH IS WHICH?
