<e28> Aftermarket Stereo Wiring

I am almost too embarrased to ask this question....but I'm sure I'll
probably also get a helpful answer.

I recently replaced the factory BMW SOund System casssette/receiver head
unit on my '87 535is and have obviously tapped into an incorrect switched
(IGN key on power lead) for the radio. The lead was rad/white andid indeed
test + for being IGN controlled. However, the radio looses power momentarily
if I step on the brakes. This will happen when the dash lights (ABS,Oil,
etc) are illuminated with IGN on (engine not running) or immediately after
starting the car while these same dash lights are still illuminated.

Another related question....it seems that my dash warning lights do not 
turnoff until the engine has reached a "trigger" rpm. The oil warning
light goes off within 3-5 seconds but the other warning lights stay
illuminated until I bring the tach over 1200 rpm. Is this a "feature" or
a probelm?
