Air Flow Meters

I was wondering about intakes mods people do on cars. I have a 1995 
318ti and I have put a Open element cone filter and big bore throttle 
body. My question is that when people do these mods, isn't the 
performance benefit limited due to the fact that the afm still is the 
same size? I am curious if anyone knows whether there is a mass AFM for 
318ti's. Or is there a way I can modify the AFM...Perhapss use a 325 
AFM?

Curious people want to know!
