There are 2 different types of front calipers for the 318/325 3 series (excl
M3)...the early non-ABS models used only Girling (these are the ones that
take the 8x25 bolts that should be replaced when the pads are changed).
Many of the ABS models (86-on) switched over to ATE calipers although the
microfiche shows Girling for some of the late models as well. The ATE
calipers had a pair of stainless guide bolts which need not be changed
unless the threads become damaged. Be sure and lubricate these guide
pins/bolts and change the bushings (available in a kit) at least every 2nd
brake pad change. Know what brand of calipers you have before ordering any
caliper rebuild kits or caliper related hardware. SD
