Pure hogwash (what the "professional" repair guy is telling you).  
The antenna mast and the drive belt in my 1986 325e are sold as a 
replacement unit by the local BMW dealer -- cost me about $30 bucks, 
took it to a local stereo installation place and he charged me $15 to 
put it on.
