<e30>backup lights/radio interferance

Hi all

happy Friday.

I have a strange problem in my 87 325es.  Whenever I shift into
reverse,(five speed) I get horrible static on my radio.  everything else
works fine.

Is this sign of the backup light switch going bad?

I can deal with this I guess...not like I drive in reverse during most of
my commute to work but what gives?
