All those codes, and what they mean

I would really appreciate it if some one could e-mail me personally and tell me 
 completely as possible the coding system for BMWs.
 
I see e36, e30 e21 e28 e39450584745065-6-594950-65-  etc etc etc etc

PLEASE!!! I know this has probably been asked a gajillion times, but i missed it 
so please help me understand what the hell everyone is talking about all the 
time???  As many notations as possible would be appreciated.   Thanks!!
